Our newest intern SamanthaHello I am Samantha Coulson, a senior studying Agricultural Education with a leadership emphasis. This fall, I started my senior year at the Mizzou and my Account Service internship with MayeCreate. I originally heard about MayeCreate from one of my professors at school and was very enthusiastic to join the team of aggies that keep MayeCreate running.

I originally am from Green City, Missouri a town of about 600 people. I grew up there with my Mom and twin sister. I did not grow up on a farm but was surrounded by agriculture. My Mom first decided to get my twin sister, Miranda and I involved in 4-H when we saved a baby bunny from one of our cats and kept in in a pet carrier. From that point on, I’ve never looked backed and have fully embraced educating and advocating about agriculture.

Our rescued bunny, lead us to a meat and fur rabbit enterprise. My sister and I raised rabbits all throughout grade school and high school. To diverse my bunny project, I started growing hardy, garden mums and selling fall gourds to the flower lovers in my hometown.

My experiences in FFA lead me to want a career in agriculture. I started the University of Missouri studying agricultural education with a teaching emphasis. Since then I have changed my degree program to agricultural education with a leadership (or more industry) focused. I really love my major. It gives me the freedom to really customize my degree and take classes that are beneficial to my career path and me. This semester I am taking some Science and Agricultural Journalism classes (including a web design class) and I am really enjoying it.  When I graduate in May 2017, I want to work in a job with people and the agriculture industry (marketing, sales, human resources, communications, etc.).

Outside of attending classes and working at MayeCreate, I also work at a full-service meat processing and sales operation and like to stay involved on campus. This fall, I am serving as the recruitment chair of my sorority and on our Department of Agricultural Education and Leadership Ambassadors team.  In all of my free time (note and enjoy my sarcasm) I really enjoy going to concerts, shopping, traveling, and enjoying all the pumpkin spice magic that fall in Mid-Missouri has to offer.
