Bing and Yahoo! merged their search engine results. This is a pretty big deal because the 2nd and 3rd largest search engines merged their operations and services. The two search engines agreed to use Bing search tools to display results on both search engines and to give analytics in Bing Webmaster Tools.

What This Merger Means To Users

1. More Results Faster – To say it simply, users want the best results from their search engine. With the recent consolidation, searching through Bing and Yahoo! will enable you to receive more results faster.

2. Use Bing Webmaster Tools, Not Yahoo! – Webmasters should now be using the Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure that their websites continue to get high quality organic search traffic from Bing and Yahoo!.

3. Improved Analtyics Reporting – Since the middle of August 2011, the Bing Webmaster Tools have integrated traffic data from Yahoo! into its reports.  Once organic results are transitioned to Bing in all the markets, Microsoft’s Webmaster Tools will be the source for Bing and Yahoo! webmaster site and analytics data. Equipped with new features including detailed traffic statistics and a new inbound links feature, Microsoft is committed to build analytic reports that include Yahoo! search usage.

4. Streamlined Advertising – Advertising on Yahoo! and Bing is now easier. Now advertisers can use one account to reach 30% of the U.S. search market (164 million unique searchers) with less time and effort. For more information about the Search Alliance: http://www.searchalliance.com/home.
